A solicitor or barrister admitted or entitled to be admitted to practice law in an Australian jurisdiction, working in an area of law that the ALA considers to be an area for special consideration.
This currently includes legal professionals, where the majority of their work, or full-time role is in:
- Criminal Law,
- Other areas at the discretion of the ALA National Council.

A solicitor or barrister admitted, or entitled to be admitted, to practise in Australia, and working in a Community Legal Centre, Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Legal Service or Registered Charity.

A solicitor or barrister admitted, or entitled to be admitted, to practise in Australia, who Identifies as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, or is a legal practitioner where the majority of their work is in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander justice.
